the vision:
a photographic artist's retreat, artists working in a place of inspiration and support, in the grand tradition of early 20th century Monhegan Island...
the reality:
mid to late Fall, 2008: a trial, a small group of invited friends, students, teachers, peers... working to inspire and be inspired, to learn and to teach, for a three-day experiment.
where:
based in Bar Harbor, Maine, photographing in Acadia and Mount Desert Island
why Acadia:
Acadia and Mount Desert Island is an area of almost unbelieveable visual depth and richness.
Subjects are limitless... whether the obvious natural environment of the Maiine
coast, the ocean, the dramatic landscapes of the island, the traditional and not-so traditional architecture, the lifestyles, the rich tapestry of people, faces and stories, the photographic
artist cannot help but be inspired and challenged by the isalnd.
...in repsonse to the tourist traffic over the last decade, Acadia National Park has responded by creating a remarkable network of transportation options, virtually eliminating the
need for individual's vehlcles. The usual logistics a photographer faces dealing with driving, parking, drop-off and pickup are virtually eliminated.
Especially in an individually directed
framework of creative work, this is an ideal solution for a small group of artists independently working within a common goal.
